We conducted a survey in middle school, which consists of children between the ages of ten and fourteen. This survey was to observe how many middle school students make their lunch for school, babysit their siblings when their parents are busy and help their parents by doing the chores. The results were staggering.
As you can see in the data below the number of students that do the chores increases from Grade 6 to Grade 7 by a vast amount however decreases by 20% from Grade 7 to Grade 8. The number of students that make their own lunch decreases by 20% from Grade 7 to Grade 8. According to statistics, the sixth graders go overboard as they are excited to be in middle school. For them it probably seems like a challenge to cope up with their first year in middle school academic wise and taking some responsibilities.
The seventh graders take on certain responsibilities as an essential job or are forced to do it. Some students might even decide to wash the dishes, iron their school clothes, or set the dining table for a change. Although many seventh graders help around in the house just to impress their parents in order to get their consent to go out with their friends on the weekend.
However, it seems that as soon as you reach eighth grade you loose interest in everything and just do things for the sake of doing it or just for a little change. Many eighth graders are under the impression that they are the "seniors" of Middle School therefore try to act cool. they are also under the impression that they since they are "seniors" they should be respected. This egoistic students of their or also some studious students who have a lot of school work on their plate boldly runaway from talking any other sort of responsibilities.....BY: PRITIKA LAKHWANI AND SIMRAN HOTWANI
