The ALS ice bucket challenge is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone's head to promote awareness of the disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as ALS. This challenge was created for people to know more about the ALS disease because it appears to be one of the rarest diseases out there and the reason why you pour a bucket of ice and cold water on your head is because it stimulates your brain and makes you freeze and doesnt allow your body to move for a single second which is what ALS fighters are struggling. The rules are stated that each person who gets nominated has 24 hours to do this challenge or they are welcome to pay minimum 100 dollars towards the ALS foundation. Pete Frates is the original founder who started this world-wide challenge. He claims to have ALS and has been suffering with it for quite a long time. It is because of him that we all know how severe this disease can be and how much pain these ALS fighters receive. It first started off with just Pete Frates and his family members along with his friends. But, as they spread it around the internet, more and more people heard of it and more wanted to join, not only for the fun of it, but to help out with this disease. At this point, it has become so popular and famous that even big time celebrities are doing it. The ALS foundation has raised over $100 million over the past months because of all these contestants joining together to help raise money for this specific charity. Some have been against this Ice Bucket challenge because they began thinking that it has gone too far and all of this water the people that took on the ice bucket challenge has been going to waste, while others have been saying that it was totally worth all of this water so that his disease can be notified and also for the ALS fighters to feel that they still have chances of surviving. "I want to accept this challenge, I want to do it better than it's been done, I've been working on this, I've got this design... it's going to be great." Says founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates. While many celebrities have been participating, so have many others, including former students of Learning Unlimited Preparatory School and the Class of 2018, otherwise known as Grade 9.
