If you ask any upper classmen what their fifth grade experience was like they’ll mostly say that it was memorable thanks to Mrs. Amissa. Every year Mrs. Amissa comes up with a new and creative theme for her fifth grade class, these ideas have ranged from Paris, to airlines, and now The Arctic. “The Children love it, it motivates, and encourages them.” President said. “Fifth grade was one of the most memorable years of my life” Celine, freshman, said.
Mrs. Amissa puts aside a percent of her salary every month in order to save up for next years theme. She has a different theme every year and carries the theme all year long. Since coming to school is mandatory, Mrs. Amissa tries to make coming to school interesting as every fifth grade student is excited to walk through that door on the first day of school to see this years theme. “Having a theme makes class interesting and gets their attention” said President. Mrs. Amissa tries to link her theme to her classes and field trips. For example this year their first unit in social studies is all about the Arctic and last year they visited the airport as well as took a trip to Puerto Rico. Everyone must be wondering where she gets her theme. Well she thinks about what she has never done and what she would like to do. Mrs. Amissa also tries to match her theme to her class’s personality. She is trying to bring back her old themes making them bigger and better. Her homeroom parents, and Laisha Baharani helps set up the classroom every year. Every year her class has a motto. This year her motto is ‘Freeze in the Fifth Grade Moments’. Mrs. Amissa claims that it is worth every penny that she saves to see the smiles on the kids when they walk through that door. She makes everyone’s last year in elementary a tremendous year and a memorable one too. The Learning Unlimited family looks forward to seeing what Mrs. Amissa has in store for years to come. Knowing her, it will be special.
