BELAIR— LU participated in the St. Maarten Relay Race on Sint Maarten’s Day. The school had 3 teams and they all completed the race. Daniel Wigley, 15, ran the first leg of the race. “As I reached the top of the hill, I was feeling great. I took off down the hill and I felt like I was flying, Mr. Beland told me later he thought I was going to trip and fall.” Luckily, he did not and continued to complete his leg. The runners all supported each other, and some ran other legs.
“Later on in the race, I was riding in the truck, and I saw one of our runners was slowing down, so I jumped off the truck, as it was moving to run with him, and as I jumped off, I tripped and fell onto the ground. I immediately got up and started cheering him on.”
The LU teens (age 15-19) came in at 34th place over all, the teachers came in at 42nd overall, and the LU Juniors (14 and under) came in at 48th overall, with a grand total of 49 teams participating in the race. Many people who did not run came out to celebrate and support the team in their efforts.
