Monday December 8th. Panic in the hallways. Students scrambling from left to right. Rushing and jostling backpacks. Storing their belongings in all corners, competing for space. The Dean of Academics, Mr. Fleming at Learning Unlimited Preparatory School had just announced while strolling through the hallways that all lockers without locks would be emptied. This approach was taken after multiple complaints from parents and students for thefts and intrusions of lockers to Ms. Sabine, the School’s Secretary, and the Administration.
In an interview, Mr. Fleming states “This is nothing new, we have always be emphasizing on using locks on lockers.”
Indeed, on Wednesday December 3rd, it was announced in an assembly that lockers will be checked for locks in the following week. However, according to Mr. Fleming, more than 10 lockers were emptied out.
He also stated that “As a school, the Administration should not be taking its own time to go and investigate and play detectives. This is an issue that could easily be avoided.”
A student who wished to stay anonymous stated “I think that if you don’t have anything valuable in your locker, you should not be forced to get one. Maybe if we targeted the thieves and brought attention to it, we would not have to have locks.”
Ms. Sabine conquered with Mr. Fleming and stated, “It is just a few dollars to buy a lock, it’s not that difficult”
Belongings will be held in the book room until lock are shown to Mr. Fleming. REPORT BY HANAYA MERLET
